The Drug Intervention Programme [DIP] is a Home Office scheme for Class A drug using offenders with the purpose of enabling users to get ‘out of crime and into treatment’. It is a key part of the Government’s strategy for tackling drugs and reducing crime.
The main aims are:
To join up initiatives in the Criminal Justice System [CJS] more effectively.
To develop an 'end to end' approach from arrest referral through sentence and beyond.
To identify an integrated care pathway, which clearly maps the course of treatment for a drug
abuser in
the Criminal Justice System.
To offer aftercare services and support to all people leaving treatment.
The single point of contact will ensure that the client has adequate support including:
Addressing drug support needs.
Housing issues.
Help with employment.
Access to treatment.
Meeting their healthcare needs.
Mental health support.
